About Ednius

Built by educators who understood the problem

We spent years on both sides of the grading equation. As students waiting weeks for feedback that arrived too late. As instructors buried under stacks of papers, knowing each student deserved more than we could give.

I've graded over 12,000 student submissions in my career. By paper 47 of any stack, I'm not giving the same attention as paper 1. That's not fair to students.

The Problem

Why assessment is broken

The current system fails everyone. Students don't learn from delayed feedback. Educators burn out grading instead of teaching.

Feedback comes too late

A student submits an essay on Monday. Three weeks later, they receive "B-" with two sentences of feedback. The learning moment is gone.

Grading isn't consistent

Grading fatigue is real. Research shows the 50th paper in a stack receives different scrutiny than the first. Same work, different grades.

Educators lose weekends

Professors entered academia to teach, mentor, and research. Instead, evenings and weekends disappear into grading stacks.

Our Story

Built from firsthand frustration

Ednius wasn't born in a pitch meeting. It started with a simple question: why does the feedback loop in education take weeks when it could take hours?

The Student Side

[Founder Name] experienced it at [University]. Submit an assignment. Wait. Check the portal daily. Two weeks pass. A grade appears with a single comment: "Good effort, but needs more analysis."

By then, the material was three chapters behind. The opportunity to actually learn from mistakes had passed. This wasn't education—it was a delayed verdict.

The Educator Side

Dr. [Name] saw the other side during [X] years at [University]. Teaching [subject], she genuinely wanted to give each student thoughtful feedback. With 180 students across three sections, that meant 40+ hours of grading per assignment.

"I'd write detailed feedback for the first 30 papers. By the end, I was writing the same three comments on repeat. That's not fair to students who happened to be alphabetically last."

The Solution

In early 2023, we built a prototype—rough, minimal, but functional. We shared it with [X] professors at [University], expecting skepticism about AI in grading.

They kept using it. Not because the interface was polished—it wasn't. Because it worked. Feedback that used to take weeks now took hours. And crucially, they could review and adjust every AI suggestion before students saw it.

Our Principles

What we believe

The commitments that guide every feature we build and every decision we make.

01

Educators have final say

Every grade Ednius suggests is exactly that—a suggestion. Educators review, adjust, and approve every piece of feedback before students see it. We're building a tool for experts, not a replacement for them.

02

Student data stays private

Student submissions are never used to train our models. Ever. We don't sell data, we don't share it, and we delete it when you ask. FERPA and GDPR compliance isn't a checkbox—it's how we architect every system.

03

Feedback matters more than grades

A grade is a number. What matters is whether students learn from it. We optimize for feedback quality—explaining what went wrong and how to improve—not just score accuracy.

04

Consistency is fairness

Human graders get tired. The 50th paper gets less attention than the first. AI applies the same rubric with the same attention at 2am as it does at 9am. Every student deserves consistent evaluation.
